Images and info about the planet Earth. There is basic information about our planet and video clip from film about methylbromide. The small blue and green planet we call home is a very special and unique place. We live on the only planet in our solar system where life is known to exist. All life exists within a thin film of air, water, and soil about 15 km deep. A layer of ozone molecules in the upper atmosphere protects all life on Earth from the harmful rays of the sun. The natural ozone levels in the atmosphere allow for an appropriate amount of harmful solar radiation to be absorbed before it can reach the Earth's surface. |

Republic of Macedonia, country of sun "There, where the Sun shines forever - there is Macedonia", says an old popular song. And, Macedonia is exactly that - a small country (25.713 sq.km), situated in the Southern part of the Balkan Peninsula; Land of mountains and valleys, with exceptionally rich natural and cultural sites - as hardly anywhere else, on such a limited space, this area treasures a large number of historical monuments: churches, icons (the Macedonian collection of icons is acknowledged to be one of the best and oldest in the world), monasteries with long tradition, archeological sites, mosques, old books and other artifacts. Macedonia is also a cradle of the Slavic literacy - Macedonian brothers Cyril and Methodius created the glagolitic alphabet, used by all Slavic peoples. |

Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning In the beginning of 1999 the Ministry of Environment was founded in order to realize the references confirmed in NEAP and to realize the Law for Protection and Promotion of the Environment and Nature in frames of the reforms of the state administration. The separation of the environment from the Ministry of Urbanism, Construction and Protection of the Environment that functioned until then and the creation of a separate organ in the state administration represents a qualitative improvement in the creation and realization of the politics in the protection of the basic ecological resources: water, air, soil and bio-diversity. |

The ozone is a molecule made out of three oxygen atoms. Its highest concentration is in the upper layers of the atmosphere, between 20 and 40 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. In every ten million molecules of air about three are ozone. Ozone "hole" - Under the term ozone “hole” we understand extreme thinning of the ozone molecules or drastic depletion of the concentration of ozone, but not its complete absence. |

It is estimated that the ozone layer will recover in the year 2040 if all countries fulfill the obligations according to the Montreal Protocol. Republic of Macedonia is well in advance of the provisions of the Protocol. More than 80% out of the total consumption has been phased-out. Remains a small part for essential uses such as halons for fire fighting and CFC for servicing refrigeration equipment in households and industry. We hope that this consumption will be kept on reasonably needed level for the next period. |
